Rainbow Hub Waikato is a growing Community organisation in the heart of Hamilton supporting the Waikato/Hauraki region. RHW provides a hub for Rainbow people of all ages for support, education, recreation, and building community.  We are looking for  reliable, committed people to support our board particularly if you have skills to assist in the responsibilities of Secretary and Treasurer for our governing Trust.

This role would be voluntary. You would become part of a small team of dedicated volunteers who donate their time to making our community engagement thrive. Ideally, you would be locally based in the Waikato with the ability to meet in person at our Hamilton space, as well as digitally via video chat.  You would be available for  3-4 hours on the second Wednesday of the month for our monthly board meetings and required preparations for said meetings. We encourage candidates with previous board experience but are open to candidates who are wanting to gain this experience to apply, as board induction and training will be provided for the successful candidate. Emotional guidance and support is also provided by a neat board of trustees from all walks of life. We strive to create a safe and supportive space for all board members. 

 

 

Responsibilities of the Secretary:

  • Coordination of the Trust Board and sub-committee meetings, including the requirement to produce accurate minutes and decisions made at those meetings
  • Maintain effective records and administration via google drive
  • Uphold the legal requirements of governing documents and charity laws (which means taking and filing correct minutes) alongside the chairperson

    We are looking for a reliable, committed person to take on the responsibilities of Treasurer for our governing Trust. Because the board is ultimately accountable for the financial wellbeing of the organisation, Trustees are required to pay close attention to the financial condition of the organisation and the ability to empower the other board members in their financial literacy. The Treasurer plays an integral role in overseeing the organisation’s finances, working alongside the financial and funding coordinators and the Manager to review and advise on budget management and reporting requirements. The board is seeking a person with at least two years of experience and a working knowledge of accounting software Xero. Experience with fundraising and public sector financial compliance would be a benefit. A candidate who is based in Hamilton/Waikato is preferred.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities of Treasurer 

    • Ensure effective fiscal management and planning, decision-making within budgets, and oversight of finances at a governance level
    • Review and advise on major financial work undertaken by the operation’s team including preparation of the annual budget, annual accounts, and Quarterly reports via Xero
    • Ensure that the appropriate financial statements are shared, reviewed, understood, and signed off at board meetings
    • Provide professional guidance for operational staff on financial matters
    • Support the preparation of the annual accounts with an external auditor/reviewer and the Manager and financial coordinator
